The Biomeme Franklin is a fully portable thermocycler capable of real time PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, and isothermal analysis, the gold standard in molecular detection technology.  Each unit is equipped with 9 sample wells enabling multiplex detection of up to 27 targets per PCR run across 3 different color channels including Green (FAM/SYBR), Amber (TexasRedX), and Red(ATTO647N). The thermocycler is just under 3lbs, battery-operated for maximum mobility in and out of the lab, and in less than an hour, Franklin can determine the presence or absence of the target(s) you are looking for.  Franklin pairs with Biomeme Go, an intuitive smartphone app that allows you to easily run, monitor, analyze, and share your PCR data.

Bresslergroup worked with Biomeme on this multi-disciplinary project. We created an ultra-portable design that is easy to use.  The form is simple and direct, visually it features both sleek and rugged elements allowing it to fit into multiple environments (primarily the lab and the field).  The elastomeric over-molded base is anti-slip allowing the user to quickly deploy the Franklin in a variety of locations.  The user interface is simple with four large buttons that can easily be operated with gloves.  Key touch points, like the sliding latch for the lid, are called out with Biomeme's signature brand color, and the rest of the device is neutral.  I was involved throughout the project, but my primary contribution was the industrial design.
